I've been thinking a lot about what it means to run a small business right now. The first two weeks of this new year have felt particularly heavy, and silence feels impossible right now.
Why I Can't Stay Quiet
I've been thinking a lot about what it means to run a small business right now. The first two weeks of this new year have felt particularly heavy, and silence feels impossible right now.
Small Businesses and Community
Politics affects my business because politics affects me, my customers, and my community. Small businesses do not exist in a vacuum. We are part of the fabric of our communities, and I will not stay quiet when that fabric is being torn. I have and will always stand against cruelty and discrimination, and I stand with those being hurt by it.
Where We Spend Our Money Matters
I am also thinking more carefully about where I spend my money both personally and for my business. I try to support companies that are open-minded and non-discriminatory, and I avoid those that enable or profit from cruelty and discrimination.
Supporting Progressive Small Businesses
If you're looking for other businesses that share these values, I encourage you to check out Little Blue Market. This week Erin and Kate launched a shopping platform (in addition to their directory), and I'm honored that The Note House has been accepted as a seller. I'm currently building out a small catalog of ready-to-ship items there.
Little Blue Cart makes it easy to discover progressive small businesses. You can search by category or find businesses owned by allies, women, disabled individuals, veterans, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ sellers. We're stronger when we support each other.
Thank You
As always, I thank you for being part of my little community.
